Looking for GIS experts to participate in a GIS online study

We cordially invite you to participate in a GIS online study.

This study is part of a research project named “Question-based analysis of Geographic Information with semantic queries (QuAnGIS)”. The project is funded by the European Research Commission (ERC) and situated at the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning, Utrecht University. It aims at developing an automated question-answering system for GIS.

The purpose of this study is to learn about GIS workflows generated by expert GIS analysts. These workflows will be used to develop and test machine-generated workflows.

The study consists of a pre-task questionnaire, the main task, and a post-task questionnaire. The main task will take approximately 3-4 hours of your time depending on your level of expertise. It can be interrupted and later resumed if needed. The questionnaires can be answered in 10 – 30 minutes. Depending on your answers in the pre-task questionnaire, you will be invited to the main study.

You will be compensated with an amount of €50 after the completion of the main task and the post-task questionnaire.

In the main task, you have to solve a geospatial analysis scenario. This involves comprehending the overall research goal and corresponding subquestions, suggesting GIS tools and datasets to answer these subquestions, and generating a GIS workflow with maps for each subquestion.

You will be asked to submit information about the workflows you have generated along with the answers provided in the informed consent, pre- and post-task questionnaires.

If you agree to participate, you can cancel your participation at any time during this study. We ask you to complete the study within two to four weeks after starting the main task.

If you are interested, please fill out the pre-task questionnaire via the following link. https://survey1.fss.uu.nl/index.php/635332?newtest=Y&lang=en. We will contact you via email with further instructions once we receive your responses to the pre-task questionnaire.
