IAOA Summer Institute on Places and Things successfully concluded

IAOA Summer Institute on Places and Things has successfully concluded! It was co-organized by the International Association for Ontology and its Applications (IAOA) and Utrecht University.

What was done?

12 participants attended the event between July 22-25, 2019 at Utrecht University. The attendants participated in the plenary sessions on spatial ontology engineering and intensively worked in groups to design own ontologies for various use cases. These use cases touched on subjects such as indoor navigation, house hunting, planning, and impact analysis.

What is the outcome?

We explored and discussed different topics including but not limited to:

  • Benefits of spatial ontologies when used together with Geographical Information Systems.
  • The usefulness of competency questions in designing spatial ontologies.
  • The set of core concepts that commonly occur in different spatial scenarios.te

Many thanks to everyone who participated in the event and your positive evaluation of it!
